Vince young had the killer instinct. Colt McCoy had a killer instinct. Ellinger had a killer instinct. How does Quinn Ewers compare to them? Asking cause I’ve been an ardent Quinn Supporter, but damn am I missing something? How does the offense respond to him when the pressure is on? How does he respond? I just don’t think he’s been the same mentally since his initial injury. I think he was mentally tougher last year. But that’s just my opinion.

Absolutely agree. He continues to play well for 50% of the game, good enough for 40%, and has 3-4 really awful plays just about every game. Even his best statistical game vs Florida, he threw one right to a LB early on that was dropped. He’s definitely got the talent and he is extremely smart, but he has got to clean up the mistakes he continues to make

Do we all think that he is better than what Maalik would have been?

Ewers just doesnt have "the 'tude"

Oh, just give Quinn a break, guys. Yes he is more mistake prone lately, but give the guy credit for his calm nerves. Withstanding that first quarter was where we needed him. The dude has time and again done it at true road games. 11 true road wins in a row at some tough venues like Bama, Mich, Arky, aggy etc. The dude is a winner and has killer nerves if not killer instinct. Just enjoy his last few games with us, and stop worrying about him, please!

He cant stay healthy, cant throw the bomb, has a non-challant attitude, teammates dont gravitate to him. Given the same leeway and opportunity, I think Maalik would have been better.

Not to mention.... hes an accident waiting for a place lol. Accurate, and maybe the worst trait a QB can have

That’s a great attitude in fantasy land but if he makes the same mistakes he has made all year vs the Georgias and playoff teams we will face, his nerves will be calm sitting on his couch at home. Yes, he has shown poise in tough environments, and that’s great. Won’t matter tho if we are down 35-17 because of some very bad decisions he makes early on

QE is to Texas 2024 football what Greg McElroy was to Bama 2009. Hopefully we end up at the same place as Bama did in 09. QE made enough plays to win and that’s all that matters. Elite defense on display today.

Absolutely agree. That’s a spot on comp, even tho I think Quinn is 10X more talented that Greg

100%, QE is far more talented than McElroy and this team relied on QE early in the season, but Texas is all the sudden a smash mouth offensive team with an elite defense. QE is capable of going off, see Florida and Michigan, but this team just needs steady QB play.

Ewers played great in the first half. Made some beautiful deep passes and made some plays with his feet.
Overall he played pretty well. The turnovers he makes would be back breakers on most teams, but our defense bails him out most of the time.
A great quarterback would win the Heisman with all of the talent around him.
For all of his flaws, he still may be good enough to get it done.

My assessment is based on where he should be at on this point of his Texas career in comparison to the mentioned Texas QB’s when it comes to having a killer instinct and finishing off opponents in the second half mainly. The offense should’ve destroyed aggy even more on the second half. Didn’t happen tonight and hasn’t happened much this year in the second half with most teams. Worrisome going into playoff level competition.

He is top 5 in several all-time Texas categories and has won how many road games in a row?

Yeah that guy has zero killer instinct. Sometimes I wonder if simple people realize they are simple

We are nitpicking the guy for sure…what matters most is wins. He has had that in spades the last two and a half seasons…
Most at Texas since Colt and VY.
For sure he has under performed statistically his potential but I’ll take him all day every day compare to what we have had since 09…

QE is a baller, a winner, and a team player! He may not put up crazy stats, but willing to do whatever it takes to get the W. That's all that matter. Thanks QE for leading us to back to CFP, instead of invitation to the Alamo Bowls.

“Killer instinct” - one of those made up sports terms by people who likely never played sports.
Quinn is calm under pressure and played better on one leg than 90% of the quarterbacks in the country.
If Sark believes in him, that’s enough for me because I’m 100% sure Sark knows more about QB play - and wants to win more - than any keyboard coaches who believe Quinn’s performance is never good enough.
For a second consecutive year, he’s leading his team to play in a conference championship and then the playoffs.
    Sounds cool to me.

Quinn was great on Saturday. I rewatched it and his throwing ability in the first half was the difference in the game. Yeah, it sucks the defensive player got a finger on the ball and tipped pass led to an INT, yes it sucks he slid a split second too late while trying to make a play and got striped from behind, but he's a baller. We are lucky to have him. You may not think he has a killer instinct which is fine but he's been in a lot of tight games this season, in the fourth quarter and they haven't lost one yet (minus UGA of course) so something is going right.

Maalik has a 58% completion rate against inferior competition, it would be worse in the sec

The INT QE threw was from a tipped pass...those are 50% at best. Either an INT or a incomplete pass. Can't put that on QE.
The fumble was not good to be sure for Quinn, but for a guy that has a brace on his ankle, he sure was willing to try to get the extra yard for the first down and if you watch the slo-mo, it was a lucky tap by the defender who was desperately trying to tackle Quinn. Maybe if Quinn uses both arms to cover the ball, it doesn't happen, but that's usually not instinctual for a pocket passer like Quinn.
Those turnovers were ultimately non-existent thanks to the defense. Otherwise, I thought he played a great game.

Someone mentioned Quinn's demeanor. He's got nerves of ice because he doesn't appear to let things like that bother him. He just goes back out there ready to work.
I've seen QB's get upset about a turnover, then go out and give up another turnover (see Ole Miss game vs. Florida).

Good times. We are in SEC title game and headed to playoff for second year in a row

Let’s really pick apart our players now

Yes. QE isn’t perfect. What QB in this country is?
